Promoting Sailing on Pleasant Bay Since 1921

Navigators Once students reach the age of fourteen, they are eligible for either the Navigators class or the 420 Racing Team. The Navigators class aims to take an abstract, wide-reaching approach to teaching students from age fourteen on. Students are exposed to a range of craft that predominantly includes 420's, Flying Scot's, and Day Sailers, along a limited number of trips on a Tarton 30 into Nantucket Sound each season. The focus of Navigators is seamanship, oceanography, wind terminology and wind theory, the physics of sailing, the use of knots, racing, and most importantly practical sailing and navigation skills on the water. Students learn in a relaxed environment that frequently features adventures as well as fun activities and games. This class, beginning in 2009, is co-run with Pleasant Bay Community Boating and is open to students of the same age at PBCB. The class meets at CYC on Mondays, and at Jacknife Cove (PBCB) on Fridays. Enrollment is limited to six students from each program.
